Talk to Black Swan Tax about tax investigations – we’re waiting to hear from you.
As well as being stressful, tax investigations are often complex. They can come in many forms and it’s rare to find two the same. However, we’re experienced in reviewing, assessing and resolving tax investigations and understand how to engage with HMRC and settle investigations for our clients.
Although we’ve said tax investigations are rarely identical, they usually fit one of these three types:
✓ Full enquiry
✓ Aspect enquiry
✓ Random check
Investigations can include VAT, Corporation Tax, Capital Gains Tax, Construction Industry Scheme (CIS), and Income Tax.
There are no concrete rules on this, but unusual activity on your tax records or accounts submitted might trigger an investigation. Incorrect figures can have the same effect, as can regularly filing late. Some industries are also seen as high risk. Someone might even alert HMRC about your business, but this is unlikely.
Of course, the easiest way to avoid the stress of tax investigations is to make sure they don’t happen in the first place. Our team can help you manage your tax by reviewing your policies, procedures, and long-term strategy to future proof your business against possible tax investigations.
